KCA- Poetry Third Place
The little boy wakes up in the morning by the sound of
bells ringing and dishes being washed.
The vegetable seller gets his cart ready for his regular walk
through the village to sell his produce.
The early noise of people opening their shops and windows alarms
the village that it is time to wake up for another day.
One by one a neighbor wakes up and goes to buy milk and flowers while the maids come
to do their regular tasks of cleaning the
front porch of the houses and applying a design of rangoli.
Minutes later, the noise of cleaning, cooking, and showers fill the morning
while the once quiet market loads with busy people.
Hours and minutes later, the once busy morning comes to a hush.
Nearing to the end of the day, the workers go home.
Luscious aroma and noise of dinner being cooked fills the village once more.
As the time gets late at night, the sight of windows being shut
and lights and candles
being turned off shows that the village has ended its busy day once again.
