Village life for a mother

E-mail Print PDF

KCA poetry participant 2009

A rooster sets the alarm at dawn

There's a house to clean and breakfast to make

Kids to wake and send to school

And lunch to pack.

A house needs water and food

from a borewell and garden.

There is work in the fields too...

Plants need to be watered and fruits to be plucked

Cooking and cleaning for an afternoon meal

A meal to eat with family and friends

A meal of rice and curry and curd as well

A pinch of pickle for some flavor.

After lunch its no break

There is dishes to wash and laundry to take

In some time school will end

A tray of bondas should be good

An afternoon of studies for the kids

Watch the kids play with dogs

Stray dogs and cats everywhere

Watch them play games all day

With friends and siblings

Games till dinner time.

A dinner to eat and rest to take

For kids to sleep, there is a story to tell

to help them sleep

In the summer, a night under the stars

Hundreds of them with no city lights.

The very next morning the roosters set

to do the same thing

With things to do every day,

There can be no better experience

Than a day in village life.
